His Grace Bishop Mor Malatius Barnaba
Reposed in the Lord

His Grace. Mor Malatius Barnaba, the previous Bishop of Homs and Hama, Syria reposed in the Lord, 18th November 2004. He was born in Azech, Turkey 1922. His father was Abouna Josef Georgis. His Grace was given the same name when he was baptized.

His Grace started to study in Azech and later on continued his studies at the Mor Touma Church in Mousul Iraq.

He was ordained deacon by Mor Athanasios Touma Al Kasir and in 1939 His Grace continued his studies in Zahle, Lebanon. In 1947 he became a Monk and shortly after he went to Homs, Syria.

In 1957 he was ordained Bishop and received the name Mor Malatius Barnaba in the Church of Virgin Mary, "Um El Zunar" in Homs, Syria.
His Grace ordained many Bishops and deacons during his serving time and consecrated many new Churches and homes for children. His Grace was also a very wise and well educated man and wrote several books.

After the very difficult car accident a few years ago His Grace was retired and during this time one of his students, namely H.E. Mor Solanos has taken over the responsibility of his congregation.

His Grace Mor Malatius Barnaba became 82 years old.

It is a great loss for the Syriac Orthodox Church and it will create a lot of empty void for the church to fill. We, who got the chance to meet His Grace and receive his blessings are deeply sad, but at the same time very grateful that the Lord granted us the beautiful time we got to spend with His Grace

John 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be; If any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
